Back to summer tradition
It got pretty warm, so Lila, Julia, and I decided to renovate our base.
Last summer, we built a pretty solid bunker near Lila and Julia's garbage shed. There is a small roof above the shed, where we hung a mosquito net. That was the first part of the base. A few days later, I realized that you could climb onto the roof of the garbage shed through a hole in the fence. It just so happens that the roofs of our garbage sheds are next to each other. There is only a small hole between them that you have to jump over to get to my roof. Last summer, my side of the garbage shed roof was terribly overgrown with ivy. It took us a long time to remove this plant from the roof. And you know what? Now it's just as overgrown as it was a year ago! And the girls' roof is covered with pine needles. So we get to work. First, we sweep the needles off Lila and Julia's roof.
Suddenly, Julia screams,
“Natalka!”
Natalka is their older sister, who recently turned eighteen.
And since no one in their family knows that we climb on roofs, we started to evacuate. I was the last to come down. When I stood on the ground, Natalka was just opening the gate.
We ran a short distance to my garden and started laughing.
When we heard the door slam shut, we ran back to Lili and Julia's garden. We started renovating the base, cleaning up the cobwebs, and moving the mattress to where it had been in the summer. The mattress took up most of the space, but a smaller part of the bunker floor was still empty. Lila said that, first of all, it's too gray here, and secondly, if we don't sit on a mattress, our butts will get cold. Decorations were also needed. Fortunately, Lila and Jula have a box with various odds and ends. It contained their old ceramic items
, an electric candle that was at the base a year ago, and Lego flowers.
Unfortunately, we don't have heated floors. Last year, we used Lila and Julia's old yoga mats. But then we moved them to a wild plot of land by the gazebo, where they got completely soaked.
“Okay, girls, what now?” I asked, standing in the gazebo and staring at the wet mats.
We were extremely lucky because we found one mat in the dressing room.
And we definitely needed a table for food. Last year, we had leaf-shaped bowls that Lila and Jula made themselves. But they also got wet because they were made of clay, and we, being stupid (as usual), took them outside the shelter and forgot to put them away. Of course, it rained heavily during the night and the beautiful bowls were ruined. Instead of a table, we decided to use a tree stump because it looks nicer. I wanted to check something else on the roof of the garbage bin,
but just then Oliwka (Lili and Julia's second older sister) was leaving the house. We even tried to secretly take pillows from my house, but my mom caught us and we got scolded. Instead of pillows, we used an old blanket from Lila and Julia's house. The only thing that survived from last year was our album cabinet. When we were building it, we used screws instead of nails, and when I hit the “nail” with a hammer, sparks flew. We were really scared. I threw the hammer in the air
and we started running to my house. We tripped and fell on the doorstep.
But it was a success. The cabinet is still solid today.
To decorate our new home, Lila ran to get some lights. We were exhausted but happy. The tradition survived! We even upheld our stunt tradition of dangling from the girls' dad's exercise wheels.
